چکیده

Abstract Background Respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) has been increasingly recognized as a frustrating cause of morbidity and mortality in adults. However, the clinical impact molecular characteristics severe RSV-associated pneumonia critically ill adult patients have rarely addressed. Methods This study, nested prospective cohort pneumonia, was conducted at 2,700-bed tertiary care hospital comprised two parts. In part 1, were compared with influenza (IFV)-associated between 2010 2019. 2, we performed phylogenetic amino acid analyses G protein RSV strains from three groups different infection severity 2015 2019 (Figure 1). Figure 1.Clinical samples for whole-genome sequencing 2. Results 92 RSV- 163 IFV-positive identified. Structural lung diseases, diabetes mellitus, malignancy common underlying diseases both groups. Immunocompromise (57.6% vs. 34.4%, p < 0.001) acquisition (47.8% 23.9%, significantly more group. Clinical manifestations diagnosis generally similar. The mortalities similarly high (Table 26 (group 1: 11 strains, group 2: 8 3: 7 strains) analyzed. All isolated RSV-A -B belonged to ON1 BA9 genotypes, respectively. analysis revealed that clustered by contemporary rather than other strains. There no genetic variations among groups, including subtype clades, sequence substitutions, changes potential glycosylation sites. Table 1.Characteristic outcomes 255 virus-associated Conclusion Severe commonly associated immunocompromised status. Overall features comparable IFV adults not distinct non-pneumonic or children, underscoring respiratory tract is mainly determined host factors, viral factors. Epidemiology and clinical characteristics of respiratory syncytial virus infections among children and adults in Mexico

BACKGROUND Respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) is a leading etiological agent of acute respiratory tract infections and hospitalizations in children. However, little information is available regarding RSV infections in Latin American countries, particularly among adult patients. OBJECTIVE To describe the epidemiology of RSV infection and to analyze the factors associated with severe infections ...

Medically attended respiratory syncytial virus infections in adults aged ≥ 50 years: clinical characteristics and outcomes.

BACKGROUND Few studies have examined respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) infections in adults. We assessed the characteristics and outcomes of RSV relative to other viral infections. METHODS Patients ≥ 50 years old with acute respiratory illness were recruited for studies of influenza vaccine effectiveness from 2004 through 2010. Nasopharyngeal swabs from enrollees were analyzed for the presenc...

Clinical characteristics and risk factors of severe respiratory syncytial virus-associated acute lower respiratory tract infections in hospitalized infants.

BACKGROUND To investigate the clinical characteristics and analyze risk factors for severe respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) infection in hospitalized infants with acute lower respiratory tract infections (ALRIs). METHODS A retrospective review of the medical records of infants with RSV-associated ALRIs between March 1st, 2011 and February 29th, 2012 was conducted. Subjects were followed up o...

Respiratory syncytial virus infection in adults.

Originally considered as only a paediatric pathogen, respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) has recently been shown to be a significant cause of respiratory illness among elderly and high-risk adults. Approximately 170,000 hospitalizations and 10,000 deaths associated with RSV occur annually in people over the age of 65 years in the United States. Although rhinorrhoea and wheezing are common symptom...

Respiratory syncytial virus infection in elderly adults.

Respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) is a major cause of severe lower respiratory tract infections in infants and young children. Reinfections are common throughout adult life with more severe presentations occurring in immunocompromised individuals, subjects with underlying high-risk cardiopulmonary diseases, and in the elderly. There is now a significant body of literature indicating that the im...
